About the film:
In a small village in a remote valley on the northern border of China’s Xinjiang region, a lonely Kazakh boy named Arsin lives with his grandmother and holds onto fading memories of his family. It seems that only plants, with their beauty and tranquility, bring him comfort. The arrival of the lively Meiyu, a girl from the Han community, is for him like discovering a rare plant he has never seen before. She brings him comfort and a new sense of excitement. The two of them spend their days together and grow like two different species rooted in the same small piece of the world—a valley that seems like an endless ocean. One day, however, Arsin learns that Meiyu will be moving to Shanghai, nearly five thousand kilometers away. It means he will once again be left alone in the quiet, fragile world that once belonged to both of them.
