Notranjski Park lies in the heart of green Slovenia, just an hour's drive from Ljubljana and near the borders with Italy, Croatia and Austria. You can reach us in several ways – by car, train, bus or bicycle. 

By car

The fastest and most flexible way to reach Notranjski Park is by your own car. The ultimate destination should be Visitor Center Lake Cerknica, where our friendly information officers will help you with all information about the park, experiences, accommodations, and where to eat something good.

Parking

There are several parking facilities in Cerknica and in the immediate vicinity of Lake Cerknica. Please carefully follow the signs at the parking facilities regarding charges and restrictions for parking motorhomes.

By train

The nearest railway station is in Rakek, about 10 km away from Cerknica. Current timetables can be checked at this site https://potniski.sz.si/  

Rakek → Cerknica 

 On foot along a well-maintained trail in the hinterland and then to Lake Cerknica along a well-maintained cycling/pedestrian path.

By bus

There are regular bus connections available between Ljubljana – Cerknica and Postojna – Cerknica (check timetables at www.ap-ljubljana.si)

For lovers of sustainable mobility:

  • Marked trails from Cerknice, Rakeka, Postojne
  • Option to rent conventional and electric bikes
  • Ideal for exploring the surroundings of Lake Cerknica

Practical tips 

  • Check the lake's condition in advance (water/dry) 
  • In the summer months we recommend visiting in the morning or late afternoon. 
  • We recommend comfortable footwear and protection from the sun and ticks.  
  • A pair of binoculars is your best friend!
