The story of Lake Cerknica is the story of the eternal dance of dry and wet, it is the story of the landscape shaped by a scythe, and it is the story of life between too much and too little water.

Immerse yourself in the stories of a very special lake and discover the mystic land of Lake Cerknica. At the Visitor Center Lake Cerknica, you will be amazed how many different stories you can discover about a lake in a very special piece of the world.

Accessible tourism at the Visitor Center

Marked parking for the disabled at Dolenje Jezero near the Visitor Center Lake Cerknica.

Accessible Parking

At Dolenje Jezero, in front of the Visitor Center Lake Cerknica, there is a car park with three spaces reserved for people with disabilities.

Accessible Entrance

For wheelchair users, access to the ground floor of the Visitor Center Lake Cerknica is provided with the help of a lifting platform, where they watch a short 15-minute film about Lake Cerknica, hear stories about the formation of the lake, learn geology and hydrology, and test themselves in a quiz about Lake Cerknica. A visit to the Visitor Center is free for disabled persons upon presentation of a valid disability card.

Adapted Sanitary Facilities

The restrooms in the Visitor Center are fully adapted for mobility-impaired people. They are located on the ground floor of the building.

Braille information panel at the Visitor Center Lake Cerknica. Next to the map of Lake Cerknica is a tactile plaque with Braille script, designed to help blind and visually impaired visitors access information more easily.

Additional accessible offering

In the Visitor Center Lake Cerknica, all content is accessible to blind and visually impaired people via Braille or audio, as the content can also be listened to.

People with mobility impairments can view the first part of the Drvošec trail, which runs along a flat gravel road (if wheelchairs are adapted for this surface) and from there view part of Lake Cerknica (or the sinkholes, if the lake is dry) and at individual points read some information about the largest Slovenian lake and its surroundings.

For the blind and visually impaired, there are adapted didactic stations at the Kuharca observation platform (the first observation platform on the Drvošec trail) – descriptions are printed in Braille, and they can also try interesting tasks (identifying bark by touch, listening to the sounds of the lake…)

Visitor Center Lake Cerknica is a recipient of environmental labels Green Key and Slovenia Green
