Green Karst is a regional brand that connects six municipalities of southwestern Slovenia: Cerknica, Postojna, Pivka, Ilirska Bistrica, Loška dolina and Bloke.
Together we are creating a green destination, where the karst landscape intertwines with exceptional natural heritage, mysterious underground worlds and an authentic connection with nature.
Green Karst destination invites you to a journey of great discoveries:
- Lake Cerknica, the largest intermittent lake in Europe and a jewel of the Notranjska Park;
- Postojna Cave, the world-famous karst marvel and home of the olm (proteus);
- Predjama Castle, the only castle in Europe built into a cave entrance;
- Seasonal Lakes of Pivka and Park of Military History, where the past blends with a modern museum experience;
- Snežnik, the second highest non-Alpine peak in Slovenia, surrounded by wild forests and Snežnik Castle;
- Bloke Plateau, home to ancient folk customs and cradle of skiing (Bloke skis) – the oldest in Central Europe:
- Dina center Pivka awareness-raising center with interactive exhibition on the topic of large carnivores and coexistence of humans and large carnivores;
- Prem Castle: built before 1213 commands a strategic position above the Reka Valley and beside the picturesque Prem village;
Each of the six municipalities contributes its unique character – creating a recognizable and sustainability-focused region, rooted in nature, culture and authentic experiences.
