We invite you to join us on Saturday, April 11, for a very special spring event, “From lake to garden,” which will take place in the parking lot of the Visitor Center Lake Cerknica in Dolenje Jezero.
The event offers a unique opportunity to discover how nature can inspire sustainable solutions. For the first time, we will present a new product—compost from Lake Cerknica, made from the grass of the intermittent lake. The material, which is revealed as the water recedes, is thus given new life in the form of a light, nutritious, and natural compost suitable for gardens, flower beds, potted plants, and lawns.
Between 9:00 and 14:00, there will be a free distribution of compost, which you can take home and try in your own garden. Your experiences will later contribute to the further development of the product.
Event program:
- 9:00–14:00: free distribution of compost (while supplies last), seed market, children’s activities
- 10:00: Official opening of the event with remarks by Leon Kebe, Director of the Notranjska Park, and Marko Rupar, Mayor of the Municipality of Cerknica
- Following the official proceedings: Presentations of the LIFE TRŠCA, LIFE FOR SEEDS, and LIFE OrnamentalIAS projects
At the event, you will have the opportunity to learn more about projects that contribute to nature conservation and sustainable land management. The LIFE FOR SEEDS project focuses on the conservation of grassland habitats and the establishment of a seed bank of native plants; the LIFE OrnamentalIAS project raises awareness about invasive alien plants and promotes the use of native species, while the LIFE TRŠCA project improves the condition of the intermittent Lake Cerknica and develops new ways to use biomass, including composting.
The event “From lake to garden” connects nature, community, and sustainable practices. It promotes local self-sufficiency, the circular use of natural resources, and reflection on how we can collectively contribute to preserving our very special piece of the world.
