Buntings (Emberizidae) are closely related to finches, but unlike them, they prefer to stay near and on the ground. Most species in this family belong to the genus Emberiza (Emberiza). They have a stout triangular beak and a distinctive pattern and plumage color. The songs of buntings are loud, often short, and characteristic for each species. Their favorite foods are grass seeds. They hide their nests in a tuft of grass or low in a dense shrub.
