Ibises (Threskiornithidae) in appearance resemble small herons or storks, but have long curved or flattened spatulate beaks. Like storks, birds in the ibis family also fly with their necks outstretched. Adult individuals of both sexes look alike. Ibises typically nest colonially in reedbeds, shrubs, or trees.
