Owls (Strigidae) are mainly nocturnal predators with large heads and a flat face. This enables directing sound toward the ears, which are positioned anteriorly. Owls are also characterized by large forward-facing eyes and densely feathered legs. Owls have a silent flight, which is enabled by special fluffy flight feathers. Owls nest in tree holes and hollows, abandoned nests of raptors, some also on the ground.
