Gulls (Laridae) are long-winged seabirds, but some species regularly visit inland areas as well. Gulls are mainly white birds with dark, gray or almost black backs and wings. Compared with similarly colored terns, gulls are much more robust, they have longer wings and longer legs, and therefore they also like to walk on land. Adult individuals of both sexes look alike, so sexual dimorphism in gulls is not pronounced. Gulls nest on the ground or on rocks near water.
