Sparrows

Samec domačega vrabca (Passer domesticus) sedi na veji.

Sparrows (Passeridae) lent their name to the entire group of songbirds (Passeriniformes), even though they do not belong among the most distinguished singers of the avian world. Sparrows are small, stocky birds with a strong short beak. They are generally of unobtrusive colors. Except for the house sparrow (Passer domesticus) and the Spanish sparrow (P. hispaniolensis), the female and male look alike. Sparrows nest in holes in trees, buildings, or rocky cliffs. They are diurnal, omnivorous birds.
