The Golden Copper (Lycaena virgaureae) is the only copper butterfly in our country that has the entire underside of its wings golden-brown color speckled with small black and snow-white specks. The upper side of the male's wings is vividly orange-red, with a narrow black band along their outer edge. The female, on the other hand, has the upper side of the wings orange-brown in color speckled with numerous black spots.
The Golden Copper is not a common butterfly in our country, although it is widespread. We can observe it on the edges of forests and forest clearings as well as along forest roads, where plants bloom abundantly. It prefers a somewhat moister environment in the mid-mountain region, usually above 1000 m above sea level.
