Little Trembler

Mali trepetlikar (Limenitis camilla) sedi na listu.

Wingspan: 44–53 mm
Flight period of butterflies: in one generation from June to mid-August
Host plants of the caterpillars: species from the genus Lonicera (Lonicera)

The Small Tortoiseshell (Limenitis camilla) has the upperside of the wings dark brown speckled with a few white spots, which also form a white band in the middle of the hindwings. The underside of its wings is, similar to that of the Large Tortoiseshell, brick-brown and speckled with black spots and painted with a pattern of white spots. For the Small Tortoiseshell, it is characteristic that the black spots along the outer edge of the underside of the wings run in two bands.

Adult butterflies especially enjoy a sip of nectar from the flowers of honeysuckle. We will encounter them in sunny clearings and along the edge of forests, in which the host plants of caterpillars occur, from lowlands to the forest edge. Like other diurnal butterflies, it loves the sun; but it prefers a somewhat more humid environment.
