Flight period of butterflies: in one generation from July to September
Larval food plants: species from the grass family (f. Poaceae)

Okrasti košeničar (Arethusana arethusa) is a medium-sized butterfly from the family of pisančkov, which has a brown upperside of the wings decorated with a band of broad oval yellow-brown to orange spots. On the upperside, in the upper outer corner of the forewings, there is a large black, almost circular, spot without a white center. The forewings' underside is orange with a broad brown margin and a pronounced black eye-spot with a white center in the upper corner. The hindwings' underside is brownish gray marbled, thus completely cryptically colored, so it easily blends in when resting on dry grasses.

Okrasti košeničar is a heat-loving inhabitant of dry karst meadows, shrubs areas and forest edges. It most often perches and drinks nectar on amethyst-colored blossoms (photo). It occurs from the sea to high mountains.
