Wingspan: 45–70 mm
Flight period of butterflies: in one generation from June to September
Larval host plants: Species from the grass families (Poaceae)

Travnar (Kanetisa circe) belongs to the largest butterflies living in Slovenia. On the outer edge of the upper side of the wings there is a white band. This band is continuous on the hindwings, while on the forewings it is formed by broad oval white spots. In the upper outer corner of the wings there is an eye-spot on both the underside and upperside.

Despite its size, Travnar is hardly noticeable when resting on a tree trunk or rock, because the camouflaged underside of the wings literally blends with the surroundings. Adult butterflies are easiest to observe when they quickly fly over dry and warm grassy and shrubby areas from the lowlands to the forest edge.
