The dace (Leuciscus cephalus) inhabits rivers with a varied bottom and strong current. It is also found in cleaner lakes. In the park it is present both in Lake Cerknica and in its tributaries. It feeds on aquatic invertebrates, mollusks and fish. It is particularly sensitive to pollution.
