Family: bellflowers (Campanulaceae)
Flowering time: July–August
Size: 30–100 cm
Habitat: tall herbaceous vegetation, meadows, shrubby areas
The egg-shaped inflorescence of the egg-shaped Phyteuma (Phyteuma ovatum) is formed by tubular dark purple flowers. Its long-petiolate basal leaves are broad and heart-shaped. Toward the top of the stem the leaves become increasingly narrow, and the petioles become shorter.
It thrives in meadows and among tall herbaceous vegetation on soils rich in nutrients. Except in the Subpannonian biogeographic region, it occurs throughout Slovenia.
