Justin's bellflower

Justinova zvončica (Campanula justiniana) v polnem cvetu na naravnem rastišču.

Family: bellflowers (Campanulaceae)
Flowering time: July–September
Size: 15–30 cm
Habitat: rocky areas

Justin's bellflower (Campanula justiniana) sprouts from underground parts, producing numerous upright stems. These are slender and typically hairless. The stem leaves are alternately arranged. The lower leaves, ovate to lanceolate, are long-petioled, their leaf margins serrated with a few sharp teeth. The upper stem leaves are entire and very narrow—linear-lanceolate. At the top of each stem, a single bell-shaped flower of violet-blue color opens. The flower is about 1.5 cm long. The flower buds are erect, and the open flowers are bell-shaped. For the flower, the threadlike perianth segments protrude to the side or backward.

It is an endemic of the Dinaric Mountains, as it grows only in the region from Slovenia to Gorski Kotar.
