Family: bellflowers (Campanulaceae)
Flowering time: June–August
Size: 10–30 cm
Habitat: cultivated soils and along paths

The branched stem of Venus' looking-glass (Legousia speculum–veneris) is alternately leaved with lanceolate to ovate leaves. The sessile leaves are somewhat wavy. They are 1 to 3 cm long. Purple flowers with a pale greenish-white center form loose inflorescences at the tops of the shoots. The plate-like, broadly spreading flowers are about 2 cm in diameter. The green calyx leaves are narrow, threadlike, and barely longer than the crown.

With the exception of the Alpine region, Venus' looking-glass is widespread throughout Slovenia. It prefers warm sites on a base-rich substrate.
