Pedicellate blue-violet flowers of the spreading bellflower (Campanula patula) are about 2 cm long and often nodding. They form a broad, spreading inflorescence. A delicate, bare stem is leafy with sessile, narrowly lanceolate leaves, while the basal leaves are spatulate.

The spreading bellflower thrives in sunny habitats on rich soils. In Slovenia it is widespread and a common meadow species.
