Form onion beds

Gredljati luk (Allium carinatum ssp carinatum) ima dolgopecljaste liste v ciklamni barvi.

Family: bulbous plants (Alliaceae)
Flowering time: June–July
Size: 20–60 cm
Habitat: meadows, forest edges, among shrubs and along paths

The erect stem of the clump-forming onion (Allium carinatum ssp. carinatum) is round in cross-section. In the lower part it is leafy with linear leaves that arise at different heights. The flat leaves are 2–4 mm wide and distinctly smell of garlic. A somewhat bracteate inflorescence is formed by numerous long-peduncled flowers. The cyclamen-colored tepals are 5–7 mm long, and the stamens markedly exceed them. Under the inflorescence there are usually two persistent dry bracts, which are much longer than the inflorescence. In the inflorescence are clearly visible rudimentary buds, which are characteristic of this subspecies. From them, after they fall to the ground, young plants germinate.

The clump-forming onion grows on poor, dry soils in sunny locations throughout Slovenia.
