The erect woolly-stemmed stem of mountain clover (Trifolium montanum) bears trifoliate, alternately arranged leaves. The lower side of oblong to oval leaflets is hairless. The edge of the leaflets is serrated with small sharp teeth. In the leaf axil of the upper stem leaves, two round to oval inflorescences usually develop. An inflorescence about 1.5 cm wide consists of numerous small flowers. The white banner is 7–9 mm long. The very short pedicel is markedly shorter than the 10-nerved calyx tube.
Mountain clover thrives on barren dry alkaline soils in sunny sites. It is widespread throughout Slovenia.
