Mountain pea

Cvetoč gorski grahor (Lathyrus linifolius) na travniku.

Family: legumes (Fabaceae)
Blooming period: April–June
Size: 15–30 cm
Habitat: forests, forest edges and dry meadows

The winged stem of mountain vetchling (Lathyrus linifolius) may be prostrate or erect. The whole plant is hairless. The stem is leafy with a few bipinnate leaves without tendrils. The leaves consist of two to four pairs of leaflets. From 3 to 7 cm long and 3 to 8 mm wide, linear-elliptic leaflets extend at the end into a pointed tip. The leaves are blue-green on the underside and dark green on the upper side. From three to six butterfly-like flowers, a long-peduncled inflorescence forms, developing in the leaf axil. The flowers are initially scarlet, then bluish or greenish. The mature spike is 3–4 cm long.

Mountain vetchling is widespread throughout Slovenia.
