Predivec

Drobni beli predivec (Linum catharticum) raste med kamni.

Family: flax (Linaceae)
Flowering time: June–July
Size: 5–30 cm
Habitat: meadows and cultivated land

The slender stem of the flax (Linum catharticum) is branched and leafy with sessile, opposite leaves. The stem leaves are lanceolate to ovate and are not longer than 1 cm. To ensure that we do not miss this small representative of the flax genus (Linum), its perfectly white flowers do the job. Five-petaled flowers form a slightly loose inflorescence at the top of the stem. The flower buds are hook-shaped, and as they open the flowers turn upward. The elliptic sepals are green and pointed. The terminal leaves are yellowish only at the base, otherwise white. They are 4 to 5 mm long.

Predivec is a common and widely distributed species in Slovenia, but it can be easily overlooked due to its small size.
