Family: flax (Linaceae)
Flowering time: May–July
Size: 30–60 cm
Habitat: meadows, forest edges and shrubby areas
The upright or obliquely curved stem of sticky flax (Linum viscosum) is, as the name suggests, sticky. In the upper part it is noticeably long-haired. Egg-shaped to lanceolate, alternately arranged leaves in the middle of the stem are 5 to 9 mm wide. Just like the bracts, the stem leaves are glandular-hairy along the margins. Sticky flax bears large, delicate flowers. Pinkish-red petals with darker veins are 18 to 25 mm long.
Sticky flax grows on variably moist alkaline soils. Found throughout Slovenia except in Pomurje.
