Obrežna zijalka (Microrrhinum litorale) is a small plant, densely covered with protruding glandular hairs. Linear-lanceolate leaves are short-petiolate to sessile. In the leaf axils of the stem leaves, solitary two-stamen flowers develop. The small purple or pink flowers are short-pedicellate. The 2 to 3 mm long pedicels lengthen during fruit development and, at maturity, the pedicels of the fruits are 3 to 8 mm long. Its fruits are noticeably shorter than the calyx.
Obrežna zijalka se pojavlja raztreseno po vsej Sloveniji, vendar so njena prvotna nahajališča verjetno omejena na submediteranski del, v ostale dele države pa je bila zanesena kasneje.
