Giant Yeti

Pogled na razcveteni socvetji velikega jetičnika (Veronica teucrium).

Family: figworts (Scrophulariaceae)
Flowering time: June–July
Size: 30–100 cm
Habitat: dry hillsides and forest edges

The generally erect stem of the large speedwell (Veronica teucrium) is evenly hairy all around. Oppositely arranged, ovate-lanceolate stem leaves are sessile. The margin of the leaf blade is distinctly serrated to saw-toothed. One or a few long racemose inflorescences develop in the leaf axils just below the tips of the shoots. Long-peduncled, sky-blue flowers are four-lobed. In diameter they measure 12 to 18 mm. The green calyx leaves are clothed with more or less appressed, curved, non-glandular hairs.

The large speedwell grows on dry soils, most often on a calcareous substrate, in fact throughout Slovenia.
