Family: figworts (Scrophulariaceae)
Flowering time: May–June
Size: pedicels 1–3 cm long
Habitat: dry to moist grassy and shrubby places
Stemless lousewort (Pedicularis acaulis) sends up solitary pink flowers from the center of the leaf rosette with a two-lipped corolla. Louseworts are hemiparasites, taking water and nutrients from the host plant, while themselves performing photosynthesis in the green leaves.
The physician and naturalist Scopoli described the species on the basis of plants he found at Otalež near Idrija, hence it is the classic locality for this species there. In Slovenia it has also been found north of Ljubljana and in Notranjska.
