Family: sorrel family (Oxalidaceae)
Flowering time: March–May
Size: 5–15 cm
Habitat: shady forests
From the creeping rhizome, the common wood sorrel (Oxalis acetosella) pushes up leaves that resemble clover leaves. The leaves overwinter, and in spring they are replaced by new ones. At the top of the delicate stem develops a single five-petaled flower. The white petals are veined with purple veins. The species is tied to distinctly shady habitats. It is common throughout Slovenia, only missing in some parts of the Primorska coast.
