Single urn-shaped flowers of the common cyclamen (Cyclamen purpurascens) are light to dark pink (cyclamen) in color and smell pleasant. The bracts are sharply reflexed back. Evergreen, heart-shaped, long-petioled basal leaves are purple underneath. They arise from a disk-shaped tuber.
Cyclamen is a poisonous plant that is found almost everywhere in Slovenia. It thrives in forests on limestone substrates. In Slovenia it is a protected species - seeds and its underground parts may not be dug up or removed from nature.
