Common loosestrife (Lysimachia vulgaris) is a tall plant with a leafy, hairy stem, which is round in cross-section. Its leaves are arranged in whorls. It has five-petaled flowers. The yellow petals are smooth along the edge, the green sepals are edged in red.

In Slovenia it is a widely distributed species, associated with sunny habitats with moist soils.
