Kranjski jeglič

Cvetoč kranjski jeglič (Primula carniolica) raste iz razpoke v skali.

Family: primroses (Primulaceae)
Flowering time: April–June
Size: 7–20 cm
Habitat: moist rocky crevices, damp ravines and rocky beech forests

Somewhat fleshy, light-green leaves of the Kranjska primrose (Primula carniolica) form a basal rosette. They are 3 to 15 cm long and 1 to 5 cm wide. Spatulate, obovate or lanceolate leaves are gradually narrowed into a petiole. The entire plant is glabrous, with glandular hairs on the calyx and leaf margins. A head-like inflorescence develops at the tip of the leafless stem. Usually it is formed by up to four flowers. Pink to pale violet flowers are 14 to 25 mm wide.

It thrives in a very restricted area; it is an endemic. We find it in the Idrijca and Ljubljanica river basins. In Slovenia it is legally protected and listed on the Red List of Threatened Plants. It is also one of the qualifying plant species for the designation of Natura 2000 sites in Slovenia.
