Family: primroses (Primulaceae)
Flowering time: June–August
Size: 50–100 cm
Habitat: moist meadows, water ditches, wetlands, tall herbaceous vegetation and along paths

Spotted loosestrife (Lysimachia punctata) is a herbaceous perennial with an erect, simple (unbranched), hairy, angular stem. Egg-shaped stem leaves are arranged in whorls of three or four. They are up to 8 cm long and on the underside are darkly spotted. In the leaf axils of the upper stem leaves, three or four bright yellow flowers bloom in summer. For the spotted loosestrife it is characteristic that its perianth leaves along the edge are glandular-haired, and the calyx teeth are entirely green, without a red edge.

Spotted loosestrife thrives in moist, nitrogen-rich, humus-rich soils on moderately acidic substrates. It prefers warm locations. Except for high mountains in the northwest of Slovenia, the spotted loosestrife is widespread and common throughout Slovenia.
