Common marsh orchid (Epipactis palustris) is an orchid with flowers that protrude at right angles to the stem, which are long-peduncled and arranged in a loose inflorescence. It has distinctive flowers with three brown-pink petals and two shorter lateral ones, which are white with pink veins. Also the large honey-coloured lip with a wavy margin is white, only in the middle is yellowish, inside the flower pink. Its erect lanceolate leaves are longer than the stem internodes. With the exception of Pomurje and the far eastern part of Slovenia, it occurs scattered across the country, but it is not common. It usually grows in marshy meadows and low bogs on carbonate substrates; in fact it is the only marsh orchid that tolerates marshy soils.
In Slovenia it is protected and listed as a vulnerable species (V) on the Red List of Threatened Plants.
