Dark red marsh plant

Temnordeča močvirnica (Epipactis atrorubens) v polnem razcvetu.

Family: orchids (Orchidaceae)
Flowering time: junij–avgust
Size: 20–80 cm
Habitat: bright, warm forests and dry sunny grassy slopes

In a one-sided raceme of the dark-red marsh orchid (Epipactis atrorubens) are grouped more than 10 scarlet-violet to brown-red flowers, which have a distinct vanilla scent. Its spirally arranged, ovate-lanceolate stem leaves are typically longer than 5 cm.

The dark-red marsh orchid is a fairly common sun-loving orchid of forest edges on carbonate substrate. With the exception of the extreme northeast of Slovenia, it is widespread across the country, but it occurs more frequently toward the west of Slovenia. In Slovenia it is protected, as are other members of the orchid family!
