Family: lilies (Liliaceae)
Flowering time: March–May

Upright, six-tepaled flowers of the yellow dog’s bulb (Gagea lutea) develop on long bare peduncles. Up to five flowers form a corymb-like inflorescence at the top of a leafless stem. It may have two, usually only one strap-shaped basal leaf, which is about 1 cm wide. This leaf extends beyond the inflorescence and is hood-shaped, curling at the tip.
Early in spring, the yellow dog’s bulb enlivens damp, bright habitats throughout almost all of Slovenia.
