Common nightjar

Navadna mračica (Globularia punctata) na travniku v času cvetenja.

Family: globularias (Globulariaceae)
Flowering time: May–June
Size: 5–25 cm
Habitat: dry meadows and grassy and rocky slopes

Leather-like, spatulate basal leaves of the common globularia (Globularia punctata) form a rosette. The upright stem is more or less densely leafy with sessile, spear-shaped leaves at the top. Alternately arranged stem leaves are 1 to 2 cm long. Numerous small, blue-violet flowers are grouped into a head-shaped inflorescence at the top of the leafy stem. The head-shaped inflorescence is 1 to 1.5 cm wide.

Common globularia is a poisonous plant that grows on dry base-rich soils in warm locations. In Slovenia it is widely distributed. It is more common in the sub-Mediterranean part of the country, whereas in Prekmurje it does not thrive.
