Snowflake (Leucojum vernum) has three or four, somewhat fleshy, basal, linear leaves. At the top of the stem, in spring, a single bell-shaped flower develops, which resembles a crown if turned upside down. At the ends of the white petals there are yellow to green spots. It is a poisonous plant that thrives in partial shade on moist, nutrient-rich soils. Apart from the sub-Mediterranean part, it is found throughout Slovenia.
In our country the snowflake is protected by the Regulation on Protected Wild Plant Species.
