The summer snowflake (Leucojum aestivum) grows in small clusters. Basal leaves are up to half a metre long. At the top of the leafless stem, early in summer, 3–7 bell-shaped flowers develop, which open one after another and are very similar to the corona of Narcissus flowers. The white petals have a green stripe at their tips. It thrives in lowlands on moist soils rich in nutrients and humus. In Slovenia the species is not common, and in the northern part of the country it does not grow at all.
It is a protected species in Slovenia, and as a vulnerable species it is included in the Slovenian Red List of Threatened Plants.
