Family: asters (Asteraceae)
Flowering time: April–September
Size: 5–30 cm
Habitat: rocky grasslands, moist rocky and sandy places, rocky outcrops and screes
At the top of the hairy, unlobed stem of the daisy-like nebina (Aster bellidiastrum) develops a single inflorescence, which resembles a flower and is called a head. In diameter it measures 2–4 cm. The head consists of white ligulate and yellow tubular flowers. The calyx of the daisy-like nebina is modified into variously long pale yellow bristles. We call it kodeljica. By this characteristic it differs from the very similar daisy, which, however, does not have a kodeljica. Long-petioled basal leaves form a leaf rosette. In Slovenia it is most commonly found in the Alpine and subalpine zones, as it prefers higher elevations.
In the Dinaric world, however, it is also found lower down, in moist and cold ravines.
