Family: the daisy family (Asteraceae)
Flowering time: July–September
Size: 20–80 cm
Habitat: wet meadows, swamps and damp places
Heart-leaved fleabane (Pulicaria dysenterica) is a perennial with a distinctly branched erect stem. Both the stem and the lower surface of the leaves are woolly-haired. Oblong to spear-shaped stem leaves are sessile and clasp the stem with heart-shaped bases. The leaf margin of the alternately arranged leaves is usually wavy. At the tops of the shoots several heads—inflorescences typical of the Asteraceae family (and ragweeds)—develop, which resemble a single flower. The head measures 15–25 mm in diameter. The bright yellow ligulate (ray) florets on the edge of the head are much longer than the dark yellow tubular florets in the center of the inflorescence. Heart-leaved fleabane is widely distributed across Slovenia.
It grows in moist soils that are moderately nutrient-rich in sunny places.
