Small pale yellow flowers of the soft thistle (Cirsium oleraceum) are grouped in upright heads. They are surrounded by yellow-green, egg-shaped bracts. These are entire and only slightly prick when touched. The soft cauline leaves are pinnate or simple and are never as spiny as the leaves of other thistles.
It is a common species in moist habitats. Except near the sea and high in the mountains, it is found throughout Slovenia.
