Family: daisy family (Asteraceae)
Bloom time: June–October
Size: 15–45 cm
Habitat: dry, stony meadows, barren moist meadows
Yellow, tongue-shaped and tubular flowers of hairy elecampane (Inula hirta) form a 3–5 cm wide head, surrounded by numerous involucral leaves. They are upright, linear-lanceolate to spear-shaped, and all about the same length. The plant is sturdy and densely covered with stiff, protruding hairs. It is a characteristic species of barren and drier habitats, most common in the sub-Mediterranean part of Slovenia. At Lake Cerknica it is also found in moist meadows.
