White butterbur (Petasites albus) is a perennial that in spring from the rhizome sends a stout stem bearing pale scale-like leaves. The white flowers form heads that are densely clustered at the top of the stem. After flowering, leaves up to 40 cm wide with roundish, long-petioled heart-shaped leaves develop, and the stem lengthens. It thrives in shaded habitats on moist soils rich in humus and nutrients. It is widespread throughout Slovenia.
