The erect stem of the willow-leaved primrose (Buphthalmum salicifolium) is simple or somewhat branched. It is leafy with alternately arranged lanceolate leaves. The lower leaves are narrowed into a petiole, the upper ones are sessile. The leaf margin is entire or with few teeth. At the top of the shoots usually a single head on a long peduncle develops. The head of ochre-yellow flowers in diameter measures from 3 to 5 cm.

Willow-leaved primrose grows on bare, moist soils with a medium amount of humus on a base-rich substrate. It grows best in sunny locations where it receives enough light to grow. It is one of the most common and widely distributed plant species in our country, being rare only in the northeast of Slovenia.
