Family: sedges (Cyperaceae)
Flowering time: June–September
Size: 2–15 cm
Habitat: wet sandy and clay soils along paths and tracks, banks of water

Bristly sedge (Isolepis setacea) is a small, tufted plant with a few to many culms. The round, smooth stem narrows toward the top. It is leafy with bristly leaves that are shorter than the stem. The inflorescence is usually composed of up to three sessile spikelets. They are 2 to 4 mm long. The inflorescence appears lateral, as the supporting leaf of the inflorescence stem visually lengthens it. Bristly sedge grows on permanently moist sandy or clay soils.

In Slovenia it is a fairly rare species, as it has been found only at a few localities inland and in the eastern part of the country. The species is listed on the endangered plants list here.
