The leafy stem of woodland sedge (Scirpus sylvaticus) is triangular in cross-section, at the base it sends out stolons. Flat leaves are about 1 cm wide. At the top of the stem of this stately perennial, one branched slightly inflorescence develops, which is not exceeded by the supporting leaves. The inflorescence consists of spikelets. 

These are usually arranged together in tufts. It thrives on permanently moist soils. It is common throughout Slovenia.
