Siberian iris

Sibirska perunika (Iris sibirica) ima dva velika modra cvetova z belimi lisami v sredini.

Family: irises (Iridaceae)
Flowering time: May–June
Size: 50–80 cm
Habitat: marsh meadows

At the top of the round, hollow stem of the Siberian iris (Iris sibirica) two large blue flowers usually develop, which are whitish inside. They are adorned with pronounced blue veins. Leaves are narrow and do not exceed the stem. In Slovenia it occurs scattered across barren moist meadows, mainly in the lowlands. The scientific name of the genus derives from the name of the ancient Greek goddess of the rainbow, Iris.

The Siberian iris is protected here; as a vulnerable species it is also included in the Slovenian red list of endangered plants.
