Goose cinquefoil (Potentilla anserina) is a perennial with a strong rhizome and a long creeping stem. This sends roots at the nodes and forms a daughter rosette, which develops into a new plant. In this way the plant spreads. Individual, long-peduncled yellow flowers measure about 2 cm in diameter. From other cinquefoils it is easily distinguished by its pinnately divided leaves with 7–12 pairs of sharply serrated leaflets, which are densely covered underneath with white hairs.
