The musk strawberry (Fragaria moschata) is the largest of the three strawberry species that grow here. Characteristic trifoliate leaves with a distinctly serrated margin form a leaf rosette. The stem and flowering stalks are densely bristly. The stem is noticeably taller than the leaves. At the top of the stem, usually a few snow-white flowers open, which have a diameter of about 25 mm. The calyx is spread out or bent backward as the fruits ripen. The tasty ripe fruits are blood-red. Botanists call them berry fruits, as the seeds develop on the enlarged receptacle. The musk strawberry is a common plant here, widespread throughout Slovenia.
