Family: crucifers (Brassicaceae)
Flowering time: April–June
Size: 30–60 cm
Habitat: deciduous forests
Unbranched, erect stem of bulbiferous bittercress (Cardamine bulbifera) arises from a horizontal rhizome. It is leafy with more than eight leaves. The lower leaves are divided, the upper ones simple. In the axil of the coarsely serrated leaves are placed brown-purple bulbils, with which this species spreads. When a bulbil falls to the ground, a new plant can develop from it. At the top of the stem a cluster of white or pink flowers forms. The terminal leaflets are 12 to 18 mm long. Bulbiferous bittercress mostly spreads by bulbils; only rarely does a fruit develop from fertilized flowers, 20 to 35 mm long and 2.5 mm wide.
In Slovenia it is a common forest plant.
